Well the 2009 season is over and the trophies have been awarded (congratulations Tristan) and it was a bitter-sweet year for me.  On the one hand, I got to race at a new track (New Jersey) and I turned my fasted lap time ever at Summit Point but then there was the wreck over Labor Day that may have ended my short-lived fascination with auto racing. Not such a good weekend after all. Looks like #91 had its' final outing this weekend after I ended up in the tire wall on the outside of Turn 9 during qualifying on Sunday.Both ends of the car are pretty badly banged up and the engine has shifted forward and to the right. After a slow haul in summer traffic we departed J&L Automotive in Chantilly in James' 37ft RV towing my trailer at around 5pm and arrived in Millville, NJ 7 hours later!Registration opened at 7am on Saturday and I was in and out within the hour. Well I'm registered for the joint MARRS/NARRC Lightning Challenge race in NJ July 18 & 19 and I've talked James into taking us up there in his RV - once he figured out he could tow my trailer without any problem it really didn't take much convincing. It wasn't until Monday morning that I got the official results from Sunday's race and to my surprise I turned my fasted lap ever at Summit Point...1:32.542. This bests my previous time by about 1.5 seconds! There was also some laps in the 1:33's.Here are the lap times from AIM's MyLaps.com site.

Over the winter a decision was made to change the MARRS race format.  There is now a short qualifier and a 10-lap or 20-minute race on Saturday and a 20-lap or 40-minute race on Sunday.  This being the first race of the season and the first race with the newly rebuilt engine (thanks to Bruce Shelton of Automotive Enterprises of Winchester) I was taking it easy and letting me and the car get used

After some quiet winter hibernating the 2009 season is only a few weeks away.  Unfortunately my car is still not ready even though it's been in the hands of a capable mechanic since just after Christmas.  Nothing ever changes...what are you gonna do?
